I have already been to this beautiful island six times, in May and in September, and I especially like these two times of year. In May, everything is in bloom and it is not yet so crowded. And in September, I mainly enjoy the sunshine and the sea. Last year, I got the idea of spending Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Rhodes. So a flight, a holiday apartment, and a rental car were booked, and off we went. And what can I say? It was simply wonderful. The island is so peaceful and lively at the same time. On the 24th, we strolled through the Christmas market and then sat on the beach with a mulled wine in 20-degree weather. On the second day of Christmas, we walked along the completely empty Tsambika Beach and even went swimming in the sea. In the evening, we admired the beautiful Christmas lights in the Old Town and wandered through the narrow streets. We spent time with local friends, helped them with the olive harvest, and were able to watch the olive oil production.
On New Year’s Eve, we watched the fireworks at Mandraki Harbor and enjoyed the cheerful atmosphere. No days of nonstop fireworks like back home.
It was a wonderfully slow-paced 10 days on the island, and there will definitely be a repeat.
