During my holiday in Rhodes, I rented a car from RhoRent Rent a Car, and I have to say — it was one of the easiest and most pleasant car hire experiences I’ve ever had. The car was brand new, the service was friendly, and they even gave me a Mini Travel Guide with tips for exploring the island.

The Secret to Visiting Rhodes Town by Car – And Parking for Free!

One tip in particular completely changed my plans — Free Parking in Rhodes Town.

When I first mentioned to our tour leader that I wanted to drive into Rhodes Town, she tried to discourage me, saying parking would be almost impossible. She suggested taking a local bus, a taxi, or joining an organized excursion instead. But the more I looked into those options, the less they appealed to me.

  • Local Bus: In summer, buses are overcrowded, with 60–70 people packed inside at over 30°C. The journey can take ages because of all the stops. Plus, I’d be tied to the bus timetable — not exactly my idea of freedom on holiday.
  • Taxi: The cost of a round trip to Rhodes Town was almost the same as renting a car for 2–3 days. And for my family of five, we’d need two taxis — the same price as hiring a car for a whole week!
  • Organized Excursion: Even more expensive. For five people, the price was about the same as renting a car for 10 days. And I didn’t want to be stuck in a big group, rushing after a guide, with no time to shop, have a coffee, or enjoy a traditional Greek meal at our own pace.

So, we decided to try RhoRent’s tip — and it was amazing!

We booked a car online at www.rhorent.com for a day. Using the directions in their Mini Travel Guide, we drove straight to Acandia Free Parking, right by the harbor. It was just a short walk from the Old Town, and parking was completely free. Even better — for those who don’t want to take the short walk, there’s a free shuttle bus running every 5 minutes that takes you directly to the Old Town and back.

We spent the day exploring the Old Town at our own pace — shopping for souvenirs, enjoying a delicious traditional lunch at Mama Sofia Restaurant (highly recommended!), and later even heading for a refreshing swim at the beautiful Anthony Quinn Bay.

That one day convinced us — we extended the rental for the whole week. With the car, we explored the island freely, visiting stunning beaches, hidden bays, and cultural sites, all with minimal expenses and maximum flexibility.

If you’re visiting Rhodes and want to see the Old Town without the stress, follow this tip: Rent a car, head to Acandia Free Parking, and enjoy Rhodes your way!
